I’m from Spokane and just read HTH for the first time. I was born almost 5 years before Kurt, and was just beginning to suffer the aftereffects of divorce around the time he was born. Our childhoods were similar in many ways, and to some extent our rootless drug infested teen years. Three years after Kurt died, my younger brother took his life on February 20, Kurt’s birthday. I first heard Nirvana on local collage radio when they were just a band among many, but they grabbed my ear in a way the others did not. Then I watched them explode and the rest is history. Great job on the book, Mr. Cross. Kurt’s life was a tragedy but we should never forget it was a triumph as well. For me, Kurt remains the last rock star. As they say, he now belongs to the ages.
