Over the moon about Los Lobos in Seattle

Many of my friends may be seeing some break-out new band in Austin tonight, but whoever they are, they won’t be as good as Los Lobos were last night at the Triple Door in Seattle. I enjoyed talking with the band backstage about their first-ever Seattle show in the eighties — which was a party for the fifth anniversary issue of The Rocket Magazine. The band’s van had broken down Ashland, Oregon, so they were late. “I loved when we got up high enough in the mountains on that drive so we could pick up Wolfman Jack on the radio,” David Hidalgo said. I can guarantee you that of every one at the Triple Door last night, only the band and myself were at that first show — there were only about 20 people there, all Rocket staff.
